When it comes to getting a meal, it’s as easy as ordering through an app, but the other animals on the planet don’t have that luxury. When they have to get a meal, they must outrun, outwit, or outlast their prey and it is fascinating to watch; animals hunting in their natural habits are some of the most watched videos on the internet. There are some animals however that employ unusual hunting methods the likes of which have never been seen. Here’s a list of some of the most bizarre hunting strategies in the animal kingdom.  1. Golden Eagles  <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-795" src="https://triviawire.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/shutterstock_365194895.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="313" /> Most birds of prey use their sharp talons to swoop in from above and clutch their prey, but the golden eagles found across the Northern Hemisphere use a unique tactic before lunging at their prey. A few years ago, a group of golden eagles were captured dragging goats off cliffs. They returned moments later to retrieve their meals. Considering that some goats weigh over 100 pounds, it is an amazing accomplishment for a bird that weighs less than 20 pounds. Golden eagles usually feed on squirrels, reptiles, and other small birds, but it’s not rare to see them go after bigger prey.  2. Deinopidae <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-796" src="https://triviawire.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/shutterstock_1438975388.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="375" /> Deinopidae are a family of spiders that were first described by famed entomologist Carl Ludwig Kock. They are sometimes called the net casting spiders because of their ability to cast nets over unsuspecting prey at lightning speed. Found throughout the tropic regions of the Americas, Africa and Australia, these nocturnal hunters leave a trap, made from their own dropping. They then make nets from their own silk which they cast at approaching victims. Once the prey is entangled, the spiders feed on their catch.  3. Secretary Birds <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-797" src="https://triviawire.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/shutterstock_1381629503.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="297" /> The secretary bird, despite its beauty and modest name, is one of the most ruthless birds in the animal kingdom. Unlike many other birds of prey who use aerial approach, these birds stomp their prey to death. Found throughout different parts of Africa, the secretary bird’s Latin name is Sagittarius serpentarius which translates to “archer of snakes”. When it attacks, it spreads its wings and raises its crest to not only show off its dominance, but to also distract the poor animal who encountered it. The secretary then steps on its prey, repeatedly until it is no longer moving. 4. Margay <img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-798" src="https://triviawire.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/shutterstock_314500436-1.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="334" /> Margays are small solitary wild cats, native to the South and Central American deciduous forests. Because of its small size (10 pounds and 30 inches in length), the margay has a unique way of luring prey. In an uncommon technique known as mimicry, margays will imitate the sounds of infant monkeys to attract other monkeys to its location. The margay’s mimicry allows it to wait while food comes to it, allowing it to conserve energy for the impending pursuit. Margays also hunt squirrels, birds, lizards, frogs, and eggs when it’s not in a vegetarian mood.  5. Archer Fish <img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-800" src="https://triviawire.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/shutterstock_216650413.jpg" alt="" width="500" height="344" /> The archer fish is a modern-day representation of David and Goliath in the animal kingdom. The fish which usually grows to 7 inches in length can take down animals that are 10 feet above the water’s surface. So how does the small fish do it? By spitting streams of water at land-based insects. Found throughout brackish waters in Southeast Asia and parts of Australia, the archer fish is capable of shooting several streams at a time in the event that it misses in the first attempt. If that doesn’t work, the archer fish is capable of leaping out of the water for a head-on attack.
